SAFETY TIPS

  • Take a proper training course such as a Canada Safety Council ATV rider’s course.
  • Plan your trip. Take only trails where ATV’s are allowed. Tell someone where you are going & when you will be back.
  • Know your machine. Read the owner’s manual and familiarize yourself with the controls. Perform the recommended pre-ride inspections. Minimize breakdowns by keeping up on periodic maintenance.
  • Wear the gear such as helmets; eye protection; gloves; sturdy footwear; long pants and long sleeved shirts.
  • Be visible. Wear bright clothing & consider using an antenna flag in hilly areas.

Take a safety kit and a tool kit with you. The safety kit should include first aid items, maps, compass, waterproof matches, snack and a flashlight. The tool kit should include tools provided by the manufacturer, spare spark plugs, towrope or strap, wire and tape. A cellular phone or in remote areas, a satellite phone, would be very helpful.
